Sept. 22, 2023 - As you might guess from my branding, most of the weddings and sessions I document tend to take place in…the mountains. 90% of those include just the couple, their officiant and me.

Sometimes, though, a couple wants both the seclusion and privacy of a mountain adventure session as well as a celebration that’s larger and more accommodating to their guests.

In this case, the couple opted to split their celebration up over two days: day 1 would be an adventure session with just the two of them in Linville Gorge, followed a day or so later, in town, with their wedding at Asheville’s original craft brewery: Highland Brewing Inc.

J + D are beer lovers - so their choice to wed at Highland Brewing made total sense! Highland Brewing, nestled in East Asheville, holds a special place in my heart because, like the couple, I love beer. I had fun to capturing the beauty of the venue and it’s tasteful accents. The industrial charm combined with the inviting decor and floral arrangements by luxury wedding florist Petal and Fern created a cozy (and contemporary) atmosphere. I loved the aesthetic decisions they made!

The evening started with a beautiful rooftop wedding ceremony with about 150 guests in attendance. Their friend officiated (who was hilarious, I might add) and I couldn’t help but laugh at all the stories from early on in their relationship and some more recent ones.

After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a cocktail hour full of sunshine, hors d'oeuvres, and (of course) beer before everyone made their way inside to the Highland Brewing Events hall for dinner and dancing. The night was high energy and an absolute blast for everyone.

The Pre-Wedding Adventure Session

So, prior to the wedding day in Asheville, David and Jimmy wanted time alone together in the mountains before all the festivities began. They value, respect, and simply love being in the mountains, so we prioritized a session in Linville, NC that would give them a completely different experience than their guests in a few days. We met in the parking lot around sunset and hiked in. They brought a few Highland Brewing beers and we all cheered in celebration of them and their Asheville wedding. It was so fun being out there for sunset, capturing epic shots of them against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs.
